Hello Jose!! SO good to hear from another APing dad!! I cotelpmely agree. And yes you really are doing the right thing. One day, people who are always away from their kids will regret it, deeply. It's lost time. I don't blame people as much as I blame society for pushing this view on us. So good to know there are dads like you out there, having such an active role!!

I fully agree with you that internal afiafrs should be discussed with domestic residents. That policy should be reformed because of globalization. As aligns, we are often exposed to the partial truth of the event or one-side story. As a result, our opinions regarding the matter are of less value or somewhat biased. There are tons of discussions or comments on the website regarding the event, negative or positive. People have places to make their voice being heard in oversea Chinese community. This blog is supposed to be a bridge between domestic and abroad alumni, currently not blocked in China. I see many guests visiting this blog from that area. So it still functions as a bridge between these two countries although it is a symbolic one. In addition domestic alumni, especially those with official posts, are not comfortable with reading negative things about China. It actually backfires when we say negative things about China, not based upon our own independent investigations but based upon rumors and/or allegations. In my opinion, it does not matter what we are saying here it has zero or very little effect on Chinese society in terms of things happening there.

Is this author's own spciulateon? or some kind of psychological evaluation based on scientific research?

My mother has adnacved Alzheimer's and is in a facility that is strong in their activities area. Because I am retired, I am able to go twice daily. In the morning, I groom my mother as though she were going out to be with friends. We have her daily schedule posted that I review with her. I return in the afternoons during a non- activity time. We do different things. We have a potted garden in their sunroom. We read together. I have downloaded short videos from YouTube. We laugh as much as possible. Mother's receptive language is still good but her expressive is very poor. We communicate a lot with our eyes. When I leave, I leave my mother sitting with a friend on her level. I introduce them to each other and they usually have big smiles as they speak in their own languages. So yes, we can change long term care facilities' mind sets. It takes showing up, being respectful, and talking to everying about your loved ones interests.
